Jim ShawMy Mirage

JRP|Ringier
"My Mirage" is the title of the first major body of work Jim Shaw created between 1986 and 1991. The nearly 170 drawn, silk-screened, photographed, sculpted, filmed or painted pieces recount the wandering of Billy, a white, middle-class American sucked into the whirlwind of the 1960s and 1970s. Beginning with Billy's anxious childhood and later his psychotic hallucinations, "My Mirage" follows Billy through his transformation from pagan cult member to "reborn" Christian fundamentalist.
"My Mirage" provides a social and cultural image of an individual in the 1960s and 1970s, producing a sharp analysis of the evolution of the subject through the cultural and social history of that era.
